As luxury tastes evolve, Hermès banks on China
Hermès is placing its bets for growth in China on Shang Xia, an offshoot it tailored to the country’s tastes. Patrick Thomas, Hermès’ chief executive, said on Monday that he expects Shang Xia, which sells China-inspired apparel, jewelry and furniture for as much as $99,000, to eventually overtake Hermès sales in China, reports the Wall Street Journal.
