Scottish whisky maker The Macallan is ushering in the next chapter of an ongoing creative project.

For the fifth edition of the Distil Your World series, which explores global cultures through a lens of luxury spirits, the brand is setting its sights on Paris. The initiative centers on the intersection of artistry between high-end beverage creation and haute gastronomy, showcased through a collaboration with Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca, the owners and chefs behind El Celler de Can Roca, which is widely considered one of the world’s best restaurants.

“The Macallan has always been rooted in storytelling, and every creation we craft carries its own,” said Kirsteen Campbell, master whisky maker at The Macallan, in a statement.

“This Distil Your World edition feels especially meaningful to me because of the experiences, sights and emotions I brought back from Paris,” Ms. Campbell said. “In building its flavors, I layered new ideas over the signature character of The Macallan to create something familiar, yet a little unexpected.

“I took a piece of Paris home with me – and this release is my personal interpretation of that journey.”

City of Lights
Distil Your World Paris takes the form of a special, limited-edition single-malt whisky, as well as a half-hour documentary.

The short film sees Ms. Campbell and Joan Roca go behind the scenes of the French capital’s haute culinary scene, speaking with many cultural tastemakers, dining at various locations and gathering inspiration for the bespoke beverage.

The Macallan presents “Distil Your World Paris”

In the video, the two creatives interact with culinary staging experts Célia Jourdheuil & Aurélie Lapierre, acclaimed baker Apollonia Poilâne, restaurant owner Jérôme Dumant and Anne-Sophie Pic, the most Michelin-starred female chef in the world.

As a result of the trip and the duo’s shared experiences, the resulting Distil Your World Paris whisky uplifts the concept of “l’art de la table,” a traditional concept that combines many elements of skilled gastronomy, including provenance, ingredient preparation, cooking, crockery, ambiance, scents and flavors, among other steps in the process; France’s lifestyle of l’art de vivre also inspires the product.

Through these foundational ideas, the prestige pour seeks to replicate many signature pieces of French cuisine, with the spirit taking on notes of buttered pastries, brioche bread, sweet fruits and several gentle spices, alongside the localized flavors of almond croissant, peach and sandalwood.

Following its creation, the drink then undergoes a distinct aging process, spending time in several types of containers, including both sherry seasoned oak casks, bourbon barrels and Cognac casks, respectively contributing floral notes, tropical tastes and the “final flourish of French refinement,” according to the brand.

Each bottle comes packaged in a gift box that depicts places and people Ms. Campbell and Mr. Roca visited in the film through Paris-based artist Cassandre Montoriol’s Gouache illustrative style.

“This illustration is a tribute to the very first Parisian restaurant, which opened in 1765 and marked the beginning of dining as an art form,” said Ms. Montoriol, in a statement.

“Inspired by that historic time, I have imagined a lively table d’hote scene set on a quintessentially Parisian street at night, bathed in the warm glow of orange evening lights.”

The beverage is available now in select stores.

Cultural crossovers
The Macallan’s Distil Your World series has previously made stops in Hong Kong, New York, Mexico and London, with the British locale helping to debut the concept in 2020.

Cultural and global intersectionality is a rather common guiding principle in the luxury space, with the culinary and spirits scene among the most frequent industry operators to partake. So far, 2026 has been a hotbed for these types of launches.

This month, local talents have been especially popular among high-end brands, as Mexican spirits giant Patrón saluted its home country’s culture in a new campaign featuring Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (see story) and Australian wine producer Penfolds enlisted singer-songwriter and actor Troye Sivan as its creative partner (see story).

Other labels have taken a broader approach, with Diageo-owned spirits brand Tequila Don Julio, introducing a limited edition bottle inspired by the Year of the Horse (see story). Launches like these help ingratiate brands with consumers across the world.
