Italian fashion label Gucci is spotlighting a new footwear design.

This week, the maison has officially launched the Gucci Shift sneaker. Merging 1970s throwback codes and contemporary craft, the men’s and women’s styles are offered exclusively through the brand’s digital storefront.

On the web
Focusing on a low-profile, lightweight footprint, the Gucci Shift sneaker connects back to the company’s equestrian heritage, with modern sports shoemaking touches.

First seen during the Cruise 2026 fashion show in May, its silhouette promises its wearer versatility, holding up to the pressures of daily use while providing a throwback look and feel. This concept is unified by the house’s signature web stripe motif, which is prominently displayed on the shoe’s central quarter panel.

A campaign for the release leads with a coed group of models sporting Gucci Shift in a variety of outfits, ranging from formalwear to streetwear. The cast is characterized through portraits, much like the maison’s fall/winter 2025 initiative (see story).

Freedom of movement is paramount to the overall experience, with the men’s and women’s selections catering to this need in different ways. Men’s styles focus on a distinctly modern and maximalist aesthetic, with bold bursts of color and the web stripe applied to the tongue and back panel.

A maxi-logo detail has also been added to the outsole, which additionally features a lateral stitching pattern inspired by the signature motif. This first wave of sneakers is forged from leather, washed leather or GG canvas.

Meanwhile, the women’s drop takes cues from ballerina shoes, with flat soles, ultra-light footprints and elastic inserts in suede, GG canvas and technical fabric colorways, each version adorned with a G charm on the laces.

The collection is available exclusively on Gucci’s website for now, though an in-store roll-out is not yet ruled out for the future.

Making waves
The Italian luxury staple is far from the only brand releasing new footwear lines.

Earlier this summer, French fashion house Louis Vuitton introduced the LV Buttersoft Sneaker (see story). The design, courtesy of men’s creative director Pharrell Williams, plays with streetwear, haute couture and athleisure codes, an avenue that Gucci has also toyed with recently (see story).

This week, French footwear label Christian Louboutin shook up its artistic process, appointing American rapper and actor Jaden Smith as its first men’s creative director. The talent intends to refresh the company’s aesthetic, presumably drawing inspiration from his unique blend of music industry and cultural references (see story).
