French jeweler Boucheron is bringing a new design philosophy to one of its signature product lines.

Creative director Claire Choisne is continuing her push for innovation in the industry with her latest reinterpretation of the Quatre collection. Unveiled in late September, the Quatre Sand 2025 capsule utilizes cutting-edge technology to combine black sand and yellow gold on a series of oversized wristwear.

Next-gen grains
The release solidifies Ms. Choisne’s commitment to featuring non-traditional materials in her creative work, previously seen with the implementation of denim, laser-etched glass and cofalit, a dark hardware forged from industrial waste.

Now, 3D-printed sand is at the center of the conversation, as the granular pieces have been distilled into the distinct, clean lines that symbolize the Quatre collection. Boucheron borrowed the technique from the aeronautics industry, with the end product utilizing many layers of polymer binders to accomplish the signature look.

The capsule is made up of seven pieces, spanning bangles and bracelets. Designed to be worn on top of one another in a stack, the designs include an extra-large take on the Clou de Paris pattern, as well as a smaller version of the same motif seen on two bracelets, with four brushed gold bangles completing the set, contrasting with the non-traditional black material.

Boucheron has utilized sand in the past as well. It first introduced the idea with its 2015 Bleu de Jodhpur high jewelry selection and later expanded on the concept with its 2024 Carte Blanche collection, dubbed “Or Bleu,” which was inspired by the black sand shores of Iceland (see story).

A release date has not yet been announced for the Quatre Sand 2025 capsule, but it is slated to launch soon in stores and on the maison’s website.

Over the top
While maximalism is at the core of Boucheron’s latest release, the small selection is not the first time the label has utilized the bold design philosophy.

The French jeweler has recently experimented with the look, curbing minimalist trends of the time to launch the More is More Carte Blanche high jewelry collection in 2023. Just two years later, many luxury peers are embracing the aesthetic in droves.
