New Global Fashion Agenda program in Turkey targets textile waste

Copenhagen-based nonprofit Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) is launching a new circular initiative in one of the world’s major sourcing regions.

Announced on Dec. 9 during the annual Sustainability Talks Istanbul conference, the organization is launching the Circular Fashion Partnership: Türkiye, designed to help manufacturers capture, sort and recycle cutting-floor waste before it leaves factory floors. Beginning in early 2026, the effort is led by Global Fashion Agenda in collaboration with local organization Rematters, with support from Reverse Resources, Closed Loop Fashion, Circle Economy Foundation and backing from the H&M Foundation.

“Türkiye represents a critical opportunity to accelerate circularity at scale,” said Federica Marchionni, CEO of Global Fashion Agenda, in a statement.

“Through the Circular Fashion Partnership: Türkiye, we aim to foster local collaboration and unlock innovation that can serve as a model for textile-to-textile recycling globally,” Ms. Marchionni said. “Such partnerships can establish scalable systems that not only address textile waste, but also contribute to climate goals, regulatory alignment, and long-term competitiveness.

“This is a vital step in our mission to support a just and circular transition."

Circular framework continues
The fourth iteration of the recovery initiative follows deployments in Bangladesh, Cambodia and Indonesia. Together, these programs have digitally traced more than 21,000 tons of waste and connected factories to recyclers and global brands.

In Turkey, the 2026 rollout will include factory assessments, training via a Train-the-Trainer approach, recycler matchmaking sessions, policy roundtables and stakeholder engagement across the textile value chain. GFA’s goal is to help future-proof the country’s manufacturing base while unlocking retained value from waste streams.

GFA’s Circular Fashion Partnership centers on building on-site waste management systems, improving traceability through digital tools and linking manufacturers with recycling partners capable of higher-value fiber recovery. Participating suppliers will also receive guidance on aligning with emerging regulatory shifts across the EU and neighboring markets.

Interested brands currently producing in Turkey can register with the Global Fashion Agenda here; the nonprofit recently partnered with global consulting firm Deloitte to offer business leaders another resource aimed at reducing waste.

In July, GFA unveiled the Fashion Impact Toolkit, an interactive guide that educates textile, clothing and footwear manufacturers on their potential environmental impact across the value chain, in line with European Sustainability Reporting Standards (see story).
