German luxury brand MCM is highlighting operational longevity.
2026 marks the label’s 50th anniversary, with the organization launching a series of celebratory endeavors to spotlight the accomplishment, as well as several defining moments it hosted along the way. The year-long campaign includes a logo refresh, digital content and new takes on the house’s signature designs.
Looking ahead
To cement the half-century mark, the brand has been rolling out a steady supply of updates and announcements, beginning earlier this month.
The initiative kicked off with the unveiling of a special 50th anniversary logo, which removes the central laurel leaf icon and fills out the block MCM lettering while adding the Roman numerals LXXVI, meaning 76, representing the company’s birth year of 1976, simultaneously highlighting its connection to its home of Munich.
Following the branding update, the group launched MCM 50, a digital content series that delves into the heritage and history of the house, both in its craft and its cultural impact. The first entry centers on Herbert Lieb, current brand ambassador and former MCM employee of 40 years.
Mr. Lieb speaks on what he believes contributed to the label’s longevity and what he calls a “once-in-a-lifetime career.” The industry figure attributes practicality, a strong identity and sustained desirability to the company’s success, while stating how proud he is of his time working for the operator; the accompanying short film shows the representative reminiscing on old times as he goes through photo albums and shows off pieces from his personal collection.
Alongside the series, MCM is also set to remix several signature product lines, including the Ella Boston handbag, the Liz shopper, the Ottomar weekender and the Stark backpack, with the first two items’ respective refreshes already being teased.

The Ella Boston’s reinvention is foreshadowed in an animated video created by New York-based visual effects artist Huw Messie, which depicts the bag’s stitches coming alive in the form of construction workers who put the leather clutch together using thread versions of pulleys, cranes and needles.
Meanwhile, the Liz tote is highlighted in a similar computer-generated short by Warsaw-based artist Ania Augustynowicz-Akardaş, stylistically showcasing the piece through a collection of moving tiles.
MCM’s celebration is set to continue and expand throughout the year.
Year of reflection
Other luxury labels are also uplifting operational milestones in 2026.
French beauty brand L'Occitane en Provence (see story), as well as LVMH-owned perfumer Acqua di Parma (see story), are also promoting their 50th anniversaries. The former label is reinventing its image for the occasion, with the latter group opting for a heritage-based, cinematic campaign.
